Nikolas Siapoutis

Nikolas Siapoutis is a Teaching Assistant Professor in the Department of Statistics at the University of Pittsburgh, where he has been teaching since 2022. Nikolas is also actively involved in Data Jam, an educational nonprofit dedicated to inspiring and empowering youth through data science. He contributes both as an instructor and as a judge. He earned his Ph.D. and M.S. in Statistics from The Pennsylvania State University and holds a B.S. in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Cyprus. During his doctoral studies, he focused on shrinkage estimators for the mean parameter in various settings, including the simultaneous estimation of mean parameters from high-dimensional diagonal multivariate natural exponential families. Beyond this work, he is also interested in the application of machine learning to real-world problems. He has contributed to the development of a software agent that designs personalized rehabilitation programs for homeless youth affected by opioid addiction. Nikolas was born in Cyprus, a small island in the Mediterranean Sea.
